Wine Educator

Position Summary:

The Wine Educator position is responsible for providing guests of one of three Wineries, top of class hospitality and customer service. This position ensures each guest has a memorable and exceptional winery experience, where the focus is on the brand story, customer service, wines education and sales, and wine club sign ups. This position will support all management initiatives by the Sr. Retail & Hospitality Manager and Hospitality & Events Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide guests with a memorable and exceptional experience. This includes:
    • Educating guests about the Winery’s history, and describing wines and winemaking techniques
    • Developing and cultivating ongoing relationships with guests and wine club members to encourage repeat visits, referrals and future sales
    • Hosting an engaging tasting with exceptional customer service and hospitality as the foundation
    • Setting up and conducting general and private tours and tastings for trade partners, VIPs or club members
  • Promote and sell the Winery & Vineyard’s wines, the Wine Club and merchandise
  • Assist with daily business functions, including opening and closing procedures, wine and non-wine inventory, and restocking
  • Handle cash and credit card transactions through the point of sale system

Professional Qualifications:

  • Proficient in CRM, Internet, Point of Sale
  • Prior tasting room, event, restaurant or other sales (hospitality focused) experience
  • Self-starter, clear communicator, positive team player, multi-tasker
  • Wine knowledgeable, and effective sales person
  • Must be at least 21 years in age
  • Ability to lift up to 50lb
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays
  • Must provide proof of full Covid-19 vaccination

Part time tasting room associate

Full Job Descripition


Luxury without pretense. Join an amazing family-owned winery in the heart of Napa Valley. Our small, passionate team works to create memorable experiences for guests that are intimate and high-end, yet still casual and fun.

Tasting Room Associates are responsible for growing wine sales, wine club memberships, and public knowledge of our Winery. The people who are most successful in this role are passionate about wine, love interacting with all types of people, enjoy working as part of a team, and are able to bring a sense of positivity and energy with them to work each day.

Currently, we are primarily in need of support on the weekends (Friday-Sunday). We expect to schedule this position for 8-16 hours per week initially, with the potential for additional hours in the future.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Host groups and provide memorable and positive tasting experiences.
  • Educate our guests on our unique history and share our story.
  • Sell our wines in a direct to consumer environment.
  • Encourage guests to join our Wine Club.
  • Sell over the phone, book reservations, and provide top-level customer service at all times.

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-2+ years of wine industry experience preferred, but not required; experience in other hospitality or customer-facing roles can substitute for winery experience.
  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
  • Must be driven, able to take initiative, and have the aptitude to solve problems.
  • Have an outgoing personality and ability to maintain a positive outlook.
  • Be a reliable, adaptable, and enthusiastic team member.
  • Having a passion and/or interest in wine a must.
  • Familiarity with Commerce7 POS system is a plus.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • A variety of schedules available with most hours being between 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM, weekend availability a must!
  • Work at James Cole Winery in Napa, California.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs (case of wine) regularly and to remain standing on feet for long periods of time.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.


COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS

  • We offer a competitive starting rate ($21-27 per hour) with additional opportunities for commissions, quarterly bonuses, and lucrative credit card tips.
  • Hourly rates are determined during our interview process by assessing a candidate’s experience and skills against internal peers, other applicants, and against the scope and responsibilities of the position.
  • Employees receive a wine allocation and discount on purchases.
